I dropped in randomly and I ate this by default, because the friers were down and it was the only vegetarian option available.
I actually enjoyed eating it, although it was very messy. The yellow corn meal arepa couldn’t hold it together. I don’t mind messy food, but I can assure you I’m the minority in this aspect… most people want food that’s easy to eat and tidy.
I like beets due to their versatility, but I don’t think they are taking advantage of their full potential. If they treated them like a steak… searing them with salt and pepper on both sides on the flattop, they would get a more complex flavor and texture.
Apart from that it was a nice flavor combination from the sweet beets, the sweet #arepadechoclo and the spicy mayo. It had a slaw as well that gave it some crunch, and some acidity, which kind of wrapped all the flavors together.
I need to come back again and try the other options that weren’t available!
