They have a huge selection of #mofongo with a variety of sauces, fillings and bases.
The traditional green plantain base is one of 3 options. You can get it with sweet plantains, yuca or a combination of the 3 as well, commonly known as “Trifongo”.
Then you can pick to stuff it with steak, fried pork, shrimp, conch, lobster or a combination.
Lastly, you can pick #alajillo or #alacriolla which are the 2 main sauces. One is a garlic forward butter/oil sauce and the other is a homy tomato and onions sauce.
My favorite combination before only eating veggies was yuca, shrimp and garlic sauce, so I went in the same route without the shrimp.
It was DELICIOUS!!! My intention was to only eat half of it, but I couldn’t contain myself and ate it all. Unfortunately, my MOFONGO FOR DAYS title wasn’t only to highlight the variety on the menu, but also to mention that it’s a day later and I’m still dealing with its effects. It didn’t sit well with my digestion, which is normally very forgiving. I’m going to blame my bowels this time, because I’ve been juicing a lot, but it could have also been the quality or the over use of the deep frying oil, which can become toxic.
We refer to this in Spanish as “no me olvides”, which translates “don’t forget me” but “you’re always on my mind” feels like the more appropriate comparison. 😂 Funny… not funny!
