In a city now saturated by arepas, it’s nice to find something new!
This arepa is fried and piled high, rather than grilled and stuffed.
Nothing against the predominant version of Venezuelan arepas rellenas but this was very good!
The texture of the fried #arepa resembled a hash brown and the cabbage salad; AKA: coleslaw added another element of texture and flavor apart from the usual meats and cheeses.
This style of arepas normally comes with a selection of meat, but due my recent dietary change, they hooked me up with an assortment of cheeses instead.
I understand the most popular one is made with “carne mechada” which means shredded beef and it’s apparently quite the sight!
The hard boiled egg topping was concerning at first, but it played very well with the slaw.
I was only going to nibble a bit and I ate it all!!!
